7-Step Renewal Checklist:

1

Know your renewal deadline

RI nursing licenses expire on your birth month, every 2 years. Log into the RICBN portal (health.ri.gov/nursing) to see your current license expiration date.

2

Track your CE hours throughout the cycle

RI LPNs and RNs need 10 CE hours per 2-year renewal cycle. 2 of those hours must be in pharmacology. Keep certificates of completion — RICBN can audit them.

3

Find approved CE providers

CE must be from accredited providers approved by ANCC, ACNPCE, or state boards. Online CE is accepted. Platforms like Nurse.com, Relias, and CE4Nurses offer RI-approved courses.

4

Log into the RICBN renewal portal

Go to health.ri.gov → Professional Licensing → Nursing. Log in with your license number and date of birth. Renewal can be completed online 60–90 days before expiration.

5

Complete all renewal attestations

You will need to attest to completing CE requirements and disclose any criminal convictions or disciplinary actions since your last renewal. Have your CE certificates ready.

6

Pay the renewal fee

Pay the current RICBN renewal fee by credit/debit card online. Fee amounts change — verify the current fee at health.ri.gov before payment.

7

Print or save your renewed license

After payment and processing, download and save your renewed license from the RICBN portal. Your license number stays the same; the expiration date updates.
